Are You Having Problems With Your Cable Company?

The Ohio Department of Commerce's cable TV Consumer Hotline 1-800-686-7826 provides assistance to cable television consumers who are unable to resolve issues with their cable television provider.
The Department will investigate complaints concerning billing disputes, poor picture quality, equipment malfunctions, and cancelled or missed service appointments.
The Department will then forward them to the respective cable companies, request that they resolve the issue directly with the consumer, then follow up to ensure that the complainant has bee contacted by the company and the issue has been addressed.

Authorized cable television providers are required under Chapter 1332 of Ohio’s Video Service Authorization law to:
- Restore cable service within 72 hours after the customer reports the problem unless the problem was caused by a natural disaster.
- Credit the customer's account for a service interruption (depending on the cause and duration).
- Provide 30 days advance written notice before removing a channel.
- Provide 30 days advance written notice prior to a rate increase.
- Provide 10 days advance written notice before disconnecting service.

The Ohio Department of Commerce's Video Service Section regulates cable television providers that have obtained video service authorization from the Director of Commerce.
Please give your cable television provider an opportunity to resolve your complaint before contacting the Department.

The Director of Commerce does not have the authority to regulate satellite companies, internet or phone service provided by television companies.
The Department also does not have jurisdiction in areas where the cable television provider operates under a valid franchise agreement with a local jurisdiction.

- Fax a copy of the completed complaint form to (614) 644-1469.
