Clawd the Crayfish is Stark County's Stormwater mascot - View Clawd's Birth Certificate. He was born at Al Leno Park in the Nimishillen Creek right here in Plain Township. He loves to educate people about stormwater pollution. Crayfish can't survive in polluted water so to keep this little guy alive and healthy it is important to take good care of our local waterways!
How do we do that? First we need to know that when it rains, it drains! Water runs along parking lots, streets, driveways and concrete and picks up Pollutants like oil, gas, trash and dirt and dumps it directly into our lakes, rivers, and streams. The water doesn't go somewhere first to get cleaned up. Our crayfish, like Clawd, turtle, and fish are swimming in all of that. We drink that water! So don't dump anything into your storm drains and please don’t litter! Don't blow your glass clippings into the street for our fish to swim and for us to drink. Recycle your used motor oil, and fertilize your lawn sparingly, and definitely not when it is going to rain. Wash your car at a car wash so the soap doesn't run down your driveway and RECYCLE! Sweep your driveway instead of hosing it down. And pick up after your dog! Clawd doesn't want to swim in any of that stuff and neither do you!
