Zoning
The Zoning Department serves the community by protecting residential standards and property values for Plain Township residents.   The Department ensures that property is in compliance with zoning and nuisance requirements which assures the health and safety of the public, and improves the appearance and quality of living conditions in neighborhoods to help maximize property values.   The Zoning Department regulates land use, prevents land-use conflict, allows growth to occur in a rational manner, and manages density.
As a life-long resident of Plain Township, Nick has 16 years of zoning and planning experience. He represents the township at local and regional meetings to build collaboration for projects to help advance economic development in Plain Township. While Zoning Administrator for Plain Township from 1990-2001, Nick initiated the 2000 Plain Township Mini-Master Plan, and coordinated the comprehensive revision of the Plain Township Zoning Resolution in 1995.

He regularly uses the county’s Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to helps citizens and professionals from the construction industry with permit applications, mapping questions, reviews
of site plan and construction drawings, zoning violations and nuisance investigations to enforce the Township’s Zoning Resolution. To provide comprehensive and cohesive

implementation in the township, he works closely with the Board of Trustees, Board of Zoning Appeals, Zoning Commission and the Road and Fire Departments. When necessary, Nick also works with the Township Law Director and Fiscal Officer regarding legal matters and expenditures.

Prior to re-joining the township as the Planning, Zoning & Development Director, Nick served as the Zoning Administrator for Springfield Township in Summit County where he handled zoning, planning and development issues.

Nick also serves the community as an elected official. He is currently in his first term with the Plain Local Board of Education and was elected President of the Board in 2011. An avid sports enthusiast, Nick was a former coach at GlenOak and Canton Class A baseball player. He was inducted into the Stark County Amateur Hall of Fame in 2000. He and his wife, Dawn have three children, Alyssa, Tyler and Carrie.
