Zoning: Permit Specifics - Temporary and Portable Signs |

Temporary signs are defined as: A sign not designed for long-term use; and a portable sign is considered a temporary sign designed to be moved easily.

The following temporary/portable signs do not require a permit:
- Real estate signs not more than 16 square feet in size.
- Auction signs not more than 16 square feet in size.
A maximum of 4 signs shall be permitted and 3 of these may be located off-premise.
- Construction project sign denoting the architect, engineer, or contractor not more than 16 square feet in size may be erected 30 days prior to beginning of construction.
- Temporary portable signs may be placed only on private property with the permission of the property owner. No temporary portable sign shall exceed 16 square feet in area in a residentially zoned district.
These signs are not permitted in the street right-of-way and shall be removed within seven days of sale, rental, lease, auction or project completion.

Sign permits are required for the following temporary or portable sign:
- One temporary or portable sign, banner, festoon, or pennant, not more than 40 square feet, advertising products sold on the premises on which the sign is located.
The sign can be displayed for 30 consecutive days.
All temporary and portable signs shall be removed from the property when not in use under a valid sign permit.
- One sign not more than 32 square feet in conjunction with a roadside stand, which shall be used to advertise seasonal agricultural sales.
The sign must be removed at the conclusion of the seasonal sale.

Note:
Temporary signs shall not be attached to fences, trees, utility poles, or the like; and shall not be placed in a position that will obstruct the vision of traffic or create a hazard or disturbance to the safety, health and welfare of the public in any manner.
Temporary signs are required to be setback ten feet from all street right-of way lines and no signs are permitted in any street right-of-way.
