On Saturday, October 3rd over 100 residents shared the rich heritage of Plain Township's history aboard the SARTA Trolley for the Bicentennial Historic Tour. The tour kicked off at Diamond Community Park where the Plain Township Historical Society offered a "then & now" presentation of the township through pictures and storytelling. Residents then boarded the trolley, which was generously donated by SARTA, to visit approximately 40 historical sites in Plain Township. The trolley riders learned historical facts about the township, and heard amusing tales and trivia from narrator Judy Pocock of the Historical Society. Originally two tours were planned, but demand was so great, a third tour was added.
An Elm Tree was donated by Rice's Nursery and planted just south of Diamond Community Park's 100 year old, recently refurbished barn. Trustee Al Leno, Bicentennial Chairman Rick Campbell, and Tom Pieper of the Historical Society, dedicated the tree to the Plain Township Historical Society in recognition of their stewardship of the community's history.
