The Plain Township Bicentennial Kickoff Dinner was held on Tuesday, January 27, 2009 at the Skyland Pines Rustic Lodge. Over a hundred people were in attendance, including past and present members of the Plain Township Board of Trustees and Fiscal Officers, members of the Plain Township Historical Society, the Plain Township Bicentennial Committee, various Plain Township citizens and business owners, and numerous elected officials and dignitaries.
     An invocation was given by the Chaplain Robert Miller of the Plain Township Fire Department before dinner was served and Mr. Louis P. Giavasis, President of the Board of Trustees, gave a warm welcome. Current Board Vice President, Mr. Albert P. Leno II, introduced the past trustees who were in attendance including Mr. John B. Baker Jr., Mr. Claude W. Shriver II, and Mr. Ron Vrabel. Mr. Claude W. Shriver II, not only a former trustee but our current Fiscal Officer, introduced the only clerks before him, who was present, Mr. John B. Baker Jr.
     Descendants of the pioneers who founded Plain Township were recognized on this night. Judy Pocock gave an overview of our rich history and heritage and went on to introduce the family members of historical families that were at hand. Those present included Ronald and Ruby Bair, Greg Essig and his daughter, Mark Firestone and Dawn Pegg, Judith Pocock, and Phil Smith.
     Towards the end of the evening, Kickoff Dinner Chairperson, Beth Davidson, announced the many upcoming Bicentennial events and all of the exciting celebrations ahead of us this year. Mr. Rick Campbell, Bicentennial Committee Chairperson, then thanked everyone who helped make this night possible, followed by a benediction by Reverend Ray Tucker. It was a beautiful night that will be long remembered and was a wonderful kickoff to the Bicentennial Celebration of Plain Township.
